My name is Daniel Fought, a.k.a. Cujo. Since I was a kid I can remember having an attraction to motorcycles. I used to love riding with my dad on his Kawasaki 750. It’s no surprise that I ended up becoming a motor officer. As the years have past my passion for motorcycles and riding has only grown stronger.
I began riding motorcycles in 1998, and after some time, or you could say experience, I thought I was a fairly competent rider. I was riding good at 55 to 60 mph, I was slowing for red traffic lights with both feet down, I was also executing u-turns with my feet down, you know being safe. Well, little did I know that everything I was instinctively doing was wrong.
In January 2002 I attended and successfully completed Police Motorcycle School. Man, was this an eye-opener and confidence builder. I can remember my first day in motor school. I watched an older gentlemen with a cigarette hanging from his mouth, ride through what appeared to me to be a very hard coned obstacle course. As he rode through this “hard” course with great ease, as if his motorcycle was on rails, I remember thinking; “there is no way I can do that.” Well by the end of the day I was actually riding the same course without dropping my motor. By the end of the week I was riding every exercise course there, as if my motor were on rails.
Police motor training gave me the skills and confidence to be a safer and better rider. I have been a motor officer ever since and I have avoided several near accidents thanks to my riding ability. I understand that no matter what you ride, you are riding, and that’s what matters.
